On the way to Russia
We left Bialowieza national parc to go towards Russia by crossing the Baltic States. We were impressed by the heavy traffic of trucks in Poland. It last about 4h to cover 200km.
We only crossed Lithuania and Latvia, without going to the capitals. We can see at first glance that these countries are mainly agricultural with many forests and ponds. It is the ideal place for us to bivouac.
Storks are visible all over the road, their nest being usually on top of the electricity poles.
In Latvia, they use the « euro » as currency, which allows us to spend our last euros and we discover one more time that men are used to do the shopping… Of course, buying beers is typically a task for men !!
Diesel cost is similar to ours, it is about 1.30€/L since we left France.
We arrived the 24th of April to the Russian border. Our arrival date being the 25th, we decide to take a track to find a nice place to settle for a day. We were not worried about being in the frontier zone because when we were in the Bialowieza national park, we were very close to the Byelorussian border, and there was not any problem.
Here, it was different. After a few minutes, customs officers stopped us, because they thought we wanted to come into Russia illegally. It was the big event for them. They informed their hierarchy about our presence before understanding what we were doing here on this way. So we had to wait for the agreement of their boss before leaving this place.
